Baby Shower, Bass Fishing, and Armadillos

Our last week in Texas seemed to fly by. I joined Romney and her sister-in-laws for lunch on Friday at the Hula Hut on Lake Travis. Have you ever had a deep fried avocado? I thought it was pretty tasty, but isn't everything better when its fried?! Actually, I think I prefer my avocados raw, but I'll try almost anything once. That night Garrett and I met his old friend Tj Turner and his wife Jamie and son Cameron for dinner at Chuy's TexMex. We thought it was fun to catch up, unfortunately, Jamie and Cameron had to make an early exit. Saturday we HAD to get out climbing. We checked out the Prototype Wall at Reimer's Ranch and were pleasantly surprised at the fun routes after our horrible experience at the indoor gym two days previous. We weren't able to stay long, but we felt a good pump before we left for the baby shower. The baby shower was crowded (in a good way) and amazingly decorated and catered! Zebra and hot pink was the theme. I couldn't believe how full of gifts the living room was - it was crazy, I'm not sure a baby needs that much stuff, but what do I know?! :) People were very generous and it was great to see such support from everyone. I have to add that the cake balls were pretty tasty too! Sunday was our field trip to the grandparents ranch in Lampasas. We had heard horror stories, but "Bill Dog decided to be nice" that day. I wasn't sure if Big Bill (Garrett's grandpa) was talking about himself or the dog. We almost fulfilled what Garrett would call the 'ideal' day at the Ranch. It was fun to drive around and tour the ranch full of beautiful exotic african deer. Garrett caught a huge catfish out of the pond, and then he and his dad shot the rifle while I stood as far as I could and put my fingers in my ears. Garrett's dad grilled some excellent steaks for dinner, then we headed back to Lakeway. I think the only way it would have been an ideal day was if Garrett shot one of the animals...Anyway, I got to see my good friend Jennifer on Monday afternoon and explore the Barton Creek Greenbelt at the same time. We're not great at keeping in touch, but Jen is the kind of friend that it doesn't matter, whenever we see each other, its like old times when we saw each other all the time - always comfortable and fun, I love that about her. Tuesday we went out on Lake Travis with Mike Parr and Captain Randy to do some bass fishing. I was the official photographer and house gazer. There sure are some amazing places to live on that Lake! I got a nice tan on my legs and Garrett caught his first bass. Mike caught a nice sized one and 10 others! Fishing is only fun when you catch something :) On Thursday, I have to admit I was a little sad to have to leave Austin. I had a great time and can't wait to go back hopefully later this year. I was moody when we left since I didn't necessarily want to, until I saw an armadillo keeled over on the side of the road. Nothing like road kill to cheer your drive up!
