Burn, Baby, Burn
How can I expect to "go green" when my job doesn't allow it? I was so torn (no pun intended hehe) today when I was asked to make copies of multiple reports and plan sets on reams and rolls (yes that is plural with an "s") of paper. Why do we need to make so many copies? I swear I used up an entire forest for this project. Somewhow we need to find a way to conserve paper. I know recycling helps, but it doesn't solve the problem. How come we can't just submit a disc of PDF files and if someone needs a printout, they can make it themself if necessary? Hopefully soon, jurisdictions will begin to accept PDF's and CD's for large submittals, and we can try to preserve the environment, reduce costs and save the earth!!!

I am not ready to accept plans on the computer yet. I want a hard copy to tote around and ask questions on, write "ALL WRONG" on, and do whatever I need to with them. Call me old fashioned, but a paper copy I believe is still important. As far as printing them ourselves, we don't have the time, money, or capacity to do so We would have to charge more fees!! I do have a large stack of extra copies that will get recycled soon and for that matter most people here recycle their waste copies. I do try to limit the copies I need, which bit me last project as I sent out all I had to referral agencies. As far as the "going green", I think your focus should be on more important topics at hand such as alternative energy sources and reducing the brown cloud. Paper is a relatively renewable resource with heavy recycle capabilities. Just my opinion. At least you care though.
